World Wide Friends - Malton Market Town

Malton Market town is approximately eight miles from our village.  The town square
hosts the market every Saturday.  There was a Roman Fort here 2000 years ago, called Derventio,  and the River Derwent that divides  Malton from Norton is a reminder of that time.  (Click on photo's to enlarge)

A Victorian Gentleman standing outside the Accountants office associated with the character Scrooge from Charles Dickens book 'A Christmas Carol'
Dickens was a frequent visitor to Malton, and it is believed he based Scrooge's office on this one in Chancery Lane.  It is now a museum of Victoriana.

Don't forget to pet my little black cat below,
use your mouse to scratch his head and
give him a tummy rub, then he will
talk to you.

Jackie I enjoyed very much reading about Malton and of your nice pictures.
I love markets and here in Hungary they are common. I am in Budapest just now :)
Glad you joined WWF!

What a charming town! Makes me miss England.. Love the idea that Dickens might have based Scrooge there.

Looks very charming. I love farmer markets. why don't you join "Cats on Tuesday" with little stories about your cats ? It's only once a week on Tuesdays and no special rules.
